Mwahahaha! (My evil mom laugh)

You know how in kids movies the villains laugh when they tell their secret plans?

Every once in a while I find myself laughing like a villain when something is funny to me in a certain way. It always surprises me to hear that laugh come out of my mouth. Here are some parenting stories where I let out my evil mom laugh.

Something for me

One day, as I was busy doing all the things, my mind was looking forward to a few minutes of unscheduled time. I thought about a few things that needed to be done, and a few things I wanted to do. Then I said with determination, “I’m going to take a nap! Mwahahaha!”

You can’t go yet

Our homeschooling 7th grader was asking my permission to go do something fun. It’s not like I don’t want her to have fun; I do. But I didn’t feel like she’d earned it yet. Then I remembered why. “You still have a math test to do. Mwahahaha!”

Getting away

When our anniversary was coming up this year, we weren’t sure if we would be able to get away together. But we talked it over and decided we needed to. We kept it simple – not too far or too long. When the day came my kids were asking if we could do something that evening and I answered, “No, I’m going away for the night. Mwahahaha!”

Made something cute

I was getting ready for a homeschool lesson on spiders and I wanted to have them do some kind of art to go with it. I looked at some ideas, but wasn’t satisfied. I folded my paper like I was going to cut a snowflake, but instead cut a spider web. Then I crafted a paper spider with some paper scraps. It turned out so cute! And out of my mouth came, “Mwahahaha!”

You gotta earn it

It was probably a Monday night – the one night a week we plan on having dessert. One of our little ones was fussing about whatever was for dinner and not wanting to eat it. Usually this just gets a straight forward reminder from me, “Kids who don’t eat their dinner don’t get to have treats.” But this time it came out with an evil laugh. “No dinner, no treats. Mwahahaha!”

Revenge of the Sandwich Hands

One of our little guys has a weird phobia about bread with peanut butter. He won’t let me come near him when I’m eating a peanut butter sandwich or peanut butter toast (which I do almost every day). Funny kid!

So one evening, as I ate my peanut butter toast, he was teasing his sister and wouldn’t stop. I had given him several warnings, at which he would slightly change his teasing so he could say he had obeyed. 🤪 Without thinking about his weird phobia, I just went and picked him up and held him, and he started freaking out about my “sandwich hands.” It was just too good! Out of my mouth came, “Mwahahaha, I got you with my sandwich hands!” And that was the end of that teasing episode! Oh, man, I’m laughing just remembering it! 😂

Maybe you don’t have an evil laugh, but I hope you are able to see the bright side of things and laugh through your parenting adventures.
